Press releases

29 August 2007, Press Release Regarding the provision of support to fire fighting efforts in Greece. (Unofficial Translation)

In consultation with the Greek authorities, it has been decided that a fire fighting plane be dispatched to Greece as our country’s contribution to the international efforts against the forest fires all around that country, which caused severe human and material losses. Accordingly, an amphibian fire fighting plane, allocated by the Directorate General of Forestry, Ministry of Environment and Forestry took off for Greece today.

As a country which faces similar disasters in summer months and being fully aware of the challenges that loss of natural life poses, Turkey has the utmost sensitivity towards forest fires, especially in neighboring countries. Having provided support to fire fighting efforts in Georgia and Macedonia recently, Turkey wishes the disaster in Greece would also soon come to an end.
