Turkey strongly condemns the abhorrent terrorist attack that took place today (25 February 2008) in Rawalpindi in brotherly Pakistan, which, according to initial reports, left seven dead -including Lieutenant General Mushtaq Ahmad Baig, Chief of Health Department in Pakistan Army- and many injured.

Turkey, welcoming the successful conduct of the general elections on 18 February 2008 in a free, fair and transparent atmosphere, and extending its heartfelt congratulations to the brotherly people of Pakistan for their display of democratic consciousness, will continue to fully support the resolute fight of Pakistan against terrorism and extremism.

We extend our condolences to the brotherly people and the Government of Pakistan, and wish speedy recovery to those who have been injured.
